I'm homesick for Elsinore!

Elsinore is coming to DC, and this is a relief. One of the things I miss most about the Champaign-Urbana area are Elsinore concerts.

I need not miss them anymore! They are going to be at the Velvet Lounge on April 12th. I'm breathing a sigh of relief.

Frak it Friday: Obama Bowling Comment

Truly offensive, as the Wonkette points out: the score is too low for the Special Olympics.

Children's book nostalgia: Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs

I loved this book as a kid. I can still see the last page in my mind -- heaped up mashed potatoes with butter melting on top.

I wonder how the movie will turn out.

Do all of my fondest childhood memories involve food?

On Graduation Day, You Have Years Of This To Look Forward To

Student panic will continue to haunt you, because there's nothing like the sinking feeling that you've forgotten something that's worth sixty percent of your grade.

Watching this just makes me want to try it

To scare you, this video makes it look super easy to break into a home. But all it does is make me want to try it.

Like, it can't be that hard! And I would be able to break into peoples homes and take their stuff!

If I'm ever desperate, I know now how to resort to a life of crime. Thanks interwebs!

Animal Crossing, Or, I Guess I'm A Pedophile...

I'm a nerd. I play silly video games and get a tiny bit obsessed. In fact, I'm looking into purchasing my own copy of a game I've been renting, Animal Crossing.

But I'm 23 and according to this article I'm playing for the "wrong reasons". In other words, pervy reasons.

Except the only people I've played with online are my sister and a guy I knew in high school. We generally just ooh and aah over furniture and how nice their flower set up is. We swap items.

Don't get me wrong, if kids are essentially talking to strangers, yeah, they should be careful. But to say that an adult would have no reason to play this game, that's a little offensive. Like I must have an ulterior motive to play a game whose target audience is children.

As if I didn't feel weird enough.

One of the most disgusting things about growing up is how much less money is worth to you. I remember receiving a little less than $10 for Easter one year when I was about 9 and thinking that would last me at least a month.

Seven or eight years later I received double that amount of money. I thought, "Great, I have gas money! I'll go on my way back into town."

My paychecks from the bookstore are about $300 biweekly, and I think, "Is that all?"

Right now, all I want is the steady 9-5, two weeks vacation, five sick days, and all national holidays. But it would be something else, if I had that, I'm sure.

With that, today I work 8a.m.-5p.m. temping, then 5:30pm. to 11:30p.m. at the bookstore. At this point, I don't see how people can ever retire; it will never feel like enough.

Whoops -- New Years' Resolution Broken Twice Over

I originally stated I was going to post every day for this year, but didn't post on either Saturday or Sunday. Whoops. There is no good excuse except that I was tired, behind on my Google Reader, and had nothing to say.

But now my Google Reader is clear, and I'm posting! Fear not!
