Octupus: Beautifully Creepy

They're my new fave, and there's one down at the National Zoo! Maybe sometime soon I'll walk down and take a peek at it.

Frak it Friday: I wish I was at Ebertfest

It pains me that schmucks like this Daily Illini reporter who know next to nothing of Roger Ebert and his awesomeness are there and I am not.

And can we all take this moment to remember what a bad student newspaper the Daily Illini is?

The Cereal Bowl : Partial Review

So all over the DC blogosphere, there has been hate on the newest Cleveland Park restaurant, The Cereal Bowl. The Anti DC laments the inherent douchiness of $4 cereal bowls, 14th & U exclaims that it is sillier than $4 cupcakes (interestingly, the Cereal Bowl sells tiny cupcakes for $1.25), Wonkette hammers home that Cleveland Park is the land of the yuppies... there just has been an overall distaste to the whole idea.

There's another store just like it I remember hearing about in Chicago called Cereality. So either the Cereal Bowl or Cereality is stealing ideas. But I digress.

I wanted to try this place out, because there is a place that I fit into between, "Oh my god that is ridiculous" and "I have to come to terms with how this can exist as a real place in the universe."

I perused their website and decided that if I ever were to go to this abomination (not to be confused with Obamanation, which we all live in now) I would get an oatmeal smoothie. Because it is too hard for me to come to terms with $4 cereal and maybe I will fare better with a $5 smoothie. We Love DC said that in honor of the Capitals game tonight, people wearing red get 10 percent off, so.... that's good enough for me.

I ordered a Berry Banana Smoothie. Or maybe it was a Banana Berry Smoothie. Its hard to tell, because their menu is all automated and electrical, and cycles through different things, so you can't see all the items actually offered at once.

The workers were nice. Very friendly, especially since DC is where customer service goes to die.

So there was a tiny oatmeal taste, but as you can see, I was so busy drinking it that I couldn't take a picture fast enough. I enjoyed it. Its hard to be hard-hearted against something that tries as hard as The Cereal Bowl. After all, its pretty likely that no one will show up, it'll go out of business, and something else will move in...later. Or maybe the Palm Beach Tan place will totally bring in the people with cash to burn on silly things.

Just a small thought...

Sometimes I happen across blogs of friends, old and new, and it pains me when they're having problems they never told me about.

Netflix Watch Instantly for the Wii (Or, Oh Man, Doesn't FDR look HOT?)

A week ago, I received my Watch Instantly disk from Netflix for my Wii. In honor of Joe Biden, I will note that (to me), this is a big fucking deal.

And it has been the awesomeness. I've seen old PBS documentaries, today Dan watch all of Weeds Season 4 (he had Good Friday off, the jerk), and The Proposal starring famous cheated on person, Sandra Bullock. It has been good times.

Which leads to this: I didn't see the documentary on FDR, but apparently he was quite the fox when he was younger. Proof:

To which my lovely boyfriend said, "He looks like Ryan Gosling! I had no idea!"

So, like, there's this meme about Ryan Gosling and I'll give you a moment to check it out, if you haven't. Go on.

Okay.

Which leads, of course, to this type of madness in my brain.

The moral of the story? I'm really enjoying Netflix Watch Instantly on the Wii. Its expanding my horizons. Before this, I thought Woodrow Wilson was the hottest president.

Dreaming (of social media) [Isn't this the sign of addiction?]

Last night I dreamed (this is the bizarre banal boring part) that I was back in Illinois and I drove to eastern Missouri to see Okkervil River play. In a Costco.

The concert was great and afterward, in the frozen food aisle, I met Will Sheff and then he impromptu-ly sang an acoustic song. This song:

[All of that is incidental to the real part of the story I wanted to tell. Sorry for wasting your time thus far.]

So all this is great, right? I pull out my phone and tweet, "OMG Just met Will Sheff."

[If I had been my normal self, I would have tweeted something more like "Just met Will Sheff in the frozen food section of Costco. Contemplating how cheap those petit quiches are.]

Immediately I get a response, which is a video of the performance I just saw thirty seconds ago.

They say you can't read in dreams, but I've noticed more and more that I'm typing in dreams, I'm texting, I'm reading blogs. I'm - of all things facebooking.

Isn't that the sign of addiction? When you're checking your email in your dreams? Checking up on the latest in Facebook?

Or when you immediately take to twitter in dreams to brag about how awesome your life is? And wake up and realize, huh, my life is average.
